2016, another great year, at first

2016 was another good year, at first. I continued to follow Dr. Fuhrman’s eating plan until the summer of 2016. I weighed 188 when I stopped, and I was feeling great, albeit a bit on the thin-looking side.

January 2016 with my extremely happy son.

Apparently, the hospital blog story about me in 2015 was such a huge hit, they decided to do a story on me for the hospital’s quarterly magazine. This time, they had an independent article writer call me and do a phone interview. She was extremely nice, and said that even she was inspired by my story and passion for weight loss. They used the same pictures from the earlier blog, so no new pictures were taken. This was slightly unfortunate, because I weighed about 30 pounds less than when the pictures were initially taken. By this time, I had lost a whopping total of 164 pounds.

Then, in the summer of 2016, another yo-yo effect unfortunately occurred. Dr. Fuhrman’s plan basically requires that you become a vegan. That sounds drastic on the surface, but was surprisingly easy to follow after a while. However, I quickly missed meat, carbs, and just about everything else forbidden. I rather suddenly stopped his plan, and began to pack on weight again. It wasn’t as quickly as before the surgery, because I can only eat up to a plate of food in a single meal; however, I started snacking a lot. I was also back to eating junk. By the end of 2016, I had already reached 230 pounds again. This trend continued until summer of 2017 when I reached 256 pounds (more on that in the next post).

August 2016, after I managed to rebound slightly and put on some weight.

The interesting thing to note is that I was working out the hardest, and most frequently, ever in my life during this time period. The thing I learned quickly is that, despite what people think, you do NOT lose weight just by working out. It’s funny how when someone thinks they need to lose weight, they make a comment about needing to exercise more. I’m here to tell you that unless you’re eating healthy, you are wasting your time. Eating healthy, in my opinion, is 90% of the weight loss solution. If you are looking for a baby step to get you started, focus on your eating first, then exercise later. Doing both together tends to be too dramatic and drastic of a change, and leads to certain failure.
